Weekend necessities

Saturday and Sunday are very sacred days of the week in our household. Each of us have things that are non-negotiable to us. For Da, it’s his afternoon siesta. Our engagements during the weekend will have to work around his (no, not Ram’s but Da’s) nap time.  For moi, it’s the weekend tasks – 4 loads of laundry, 1 container of idli-dosai batter, 1 set of chapathi dough kneaded, and 5 boxes of salad for Da’s lunch. Weekday sanity is highly determined by whether or not I accomplish these tasks over the weekend. For Hari, it’s his video games time plus the sleep over with me on Saturday night. He is allowed to play games for half hour  during the weekend only. By the way, the child has petitioned for extending this to another day during the week. For Ram, it’s the movie night on Sat. The kiddie  typically starts the countdown right from Wed. Is today Sat.? can I watch T.V, today? What movie should I watch on Sat.?

Of course, we make exceptions. But in general, these are unwritten rules that we respect and abide by. Do you have things that you hold dear to heart during the weekend?

  1. My weekend must-do list is pretty similar to yours: Idli mavu, desi grocery shopping, other grocery shopping for fruit and snacks for the week, laundry, sleeping late — like till 7 am. 😉

  2. Love this post! Our weekend snoozes are something we try to protect. Anjali is an early riser so getting up 6.30 on a saturday is no fun. We all make up by taking a 2 hour nap during weekends. Its one of the things I look forward to!

I do that when I am sleep deprived but otherwise the mind is on overdrive wanting to do and not just be!
